Sichuan Airlines appears to have some flights from Vancouver to Shenyang, China for $675 roundtrip after taxes.
The Sichuan Airlines website isn't available in English, so I've found that the easiest way to explore available dates and book the flights is to...
1. Look for cheap dates on Google Flights Explorer

Look for the flights to Chengdu, China

2. Once you've found dates that work for you, search for those same dates on Skyscanner
From: Vancouver International (YVR)
To: Shenyang (SHE)
Click through from SkyScanner to one of their booking providers. This method has given me the best success for verifying the booking in Canadian dollars.
The flights from Vancouver to Shenyang are nonstop on Sichuan Airlines. Shenyang is in the NE part of China, and seems to be far removed from the typical tourist attractions in China.
1 stop flights on Sichuan Airlines to Chengdu, China (CTY) for $726 also appear to be available from Vancouver.
Chengdu is relatively close to some popular tourist sights, such as Pearl Shoal Waterfall and Jiuzhaigou Valley.
