Vancouver to Qingdao, China - $590 CAD roundtrip including taxes | non-stop flights

Beijing Capital Airlines is all set to start their non-stop flights from Vancouver (YVR) to Qingdao, China (TAO) near the end of December.
This new route is an 11-12 hour flight each way, and Beijing Capital Airlines is launching with most of their fares set at $590 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
Beijing Capital Airlines is a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines (a well known, and pretty highly regarded airline). In the last few years they've been expanding their international route network from China to Europe, Australia, Mexico, and now Canada, at a fairly rapid pace.
They will also be offering connecting flights to Hangzhou, China (HGH)
Qingdao (TAO) is close to smack dab in the middle between Shanghai and Beijing, about 500km (as the crow flies) from either city, on the Eastern coast of China.
I'm not sure what Qingdao is like, as far as being a tourist goes. Laoshan, a scenic mountainous area nearby, might be the only thing that would entice me to visit...
Qingdao itself seems to be known for the Qingdao Beer Museum, an Olympic sailing center, and a decent beach (for China).
How to find and book these flights
1. Go to FlightHub
2. Search for a flight from Vancouver to Qingdao, China (TAO)
Try one of the following date combinations:
Departure dates: Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday dates, between January and March
Return dates: Wednesday or Friday dates, between January and March

There's also a flight over the Christmas holidays from Vancouver to Hangzhou, China (HGH) for $539 CAD roundtrip including taxes
Hangzhou looks like an interesting area to visit (temples, gardens, canals, parks, tea fields, etc) but I don't think winter is the ideal time of year to be in this area.

Try December 30 to January 6.
