ANA has dropped the price of their flights from Vancouver to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan down to between $468 and $487 CAD roundtrip including taxes!
The flights to Tokyo are non-stop flights.
The flights to Osaka have 1 stop in Tokyo each way.
From Osaka, it's a 26 minute train ride ($17) to the beautiful city of Kyoto if you use the special rapid trains on the JR Kyoto Line.
You can also fly into Tokyo but home from Osaka for the same price. It's also worth trying many other cities in Japan instead of Osaka.
You can also find similar prices from Victoria (YYJ) with an extra stop through Vancouver.
Update 11/29 @ 5:30 PST - It looks like all of the flights that are non-stop both ways have sold out. There are still some that are 1 stop on the way there with United, and non-stop on the way home with ANA. Added the Google Flights link below.
You can also look at flying into Tokyo or Osaka, but home from a different airport in Japan.
For example, Vancouver to Tokyo, and then Sapporo (CTS) to Vancouver. The Sapporo Snow Festival is from Jan 30 to Feb 11.
Sapporo (CTS) or Asahikawa (AKJ) are the airports you want to focus on if you're interesting in skiing / snowboarding the legendary powder of Hokkaido.

How to find and book this deal
1. Try a Google Flights search like this one...
Google Flights: Vancouver to Tokyo
^^^ look for the dates that are $469 roundtrip (sold out)
Google Flights: Vancouver to Tokyo
^^^ look for the dates that are $505 roundtrip (still available)
Google Flights: Vancouver to Tokyo, and then Sapporo to Vancouver
Google Flights: Vancouver to Osaka
^^^ look for the dates that are $487 roundtrip
2. In Google Flights, click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view and browse for cheap date combinations
- look for the dates that are $469 to $487 roundtrip
TIP #1: Look for the flights where the overseas legs are operated by ANA instead of United, whenever possible.
TIP #2: Tokyo's Haneda (HND) airport is the one that's close to downtown Tokyo. Narita (NRT) airport is an hour's train ride away.
3. From Google Flights, I would recommend clicking through to the ANA website, when available.
But if you try the same destination and dates on Skyscanner you can book them for $464 CAD roundtrip.

I always watch for deals to Tokyo as well. I also missed this one, but I discovered another while searching. If you go to ANA website and search for flights from YVR to TYO, in early March 2020, (i.e. March 4 onwards... travel duration around 1 week-ish, there are a few deals priced at 505.89 CAD! On the way there requires layover but it is nonstop on the way back. Just in case the time works out for you, it's still a good deal!
